An Upper Gwynedd cop accidentally shot himself during a
firearms training Tuesday morning in Hatfield Township, police said.
Sgt. Stephen Gillen was removing his firearm from his
holster when he shot a round into his left foot, according to a news release
from Hatfield Township Police.
At the time of the incident, Gillen was under the
supervision of two certified range instructors.
The shooting happened around 10:45 a.m. at the police range
at 304 Country Line Road.
Gillen, a 23-year-veteran of Upper Gwynedd police, was alert
and being treated by his fellow cop, police said. Gillen was taken to Abington
Memorial Hospital.
