A Round Rock police officer who accidentally discharged a
gun into his right foot Tuesday was attending a workshop to become an
instructor for Glock firearms, said Dee Carver, a police spokeswoman.
Sgt. Sean Johnson, who is in the department’s training
division, wounded himself at about 1:45 p.m. Tuesday at the Williamson County
firing range, Carver said. He was holding the gun when he inadvertently
discharged it, she said. She had no further details about how the shooting
happened.
Officers treated Johnson at the scene before he was taken to
Seton Medical Center Williamson in Round Rock for treatment, Carver said. He
was released Tuesday evening but will receive ongoing treatment and therapy,
she said.
Johnson has been an officer with the department since 2006.
The department was hosting the training event with
instructors from Glock firearms, which Round Rock officers carry, Carver said.
Round Rock police are investigating the incident.
