Pennsylvania Police Officer Shoots Himself in Leg
Plymouth, PA — A police
officer has been hospitalized after he accidentally shot himself in the leg at
a suburban Philadelphia training center. The accident occurred at an indoor
firing range at the Montgomery County Fire Academy shortly after 11 a.m.
Thursday, May 25, 2013, The Evening Sun reported.
According to officials, it
is believed the shot grazed the officer’s leg and may have entered his calf.
The officer was conscious and alert at the time of the accident.
The victim was flown to a
Philadelphia hospital for treatment.
The identity of the injured
officer has not been released at this time.
It is unknown what caused
the officer to inadvertently shoot himself in the leg, but investigations are
ongoing.
The training accident is
under investigation.
